Memorial Weekend with the Family

Every year Christopher’s family gets together in the summer for a little get together. This year we kicked off our time together with a trip to the Old Mill in Little Rock, AR.

old millThe Old Mill is a pretty little spot in Little Rock that we had previously visited while in college. The last time we were there was for a formal my senior year of college. Throwback time!

old mill formalCirca 2008. :) It was a formal with Christopher’s college club (similar to a fraternity). Look how cute we were back then. In the shot of all the girls, I’m tallest one in purple (side note: I’m also the only one in flats and yet I’m still tallest, ha!). Good times good times. But back to our family weekend!

tony and martyMy parents-in-law at the Old Mill. They are pretty adorable. :)

After walking around the Old Mill my sister-in-law, Katy, called her brother to get some recommendations for local Little Rock eats. When Christopher and I heard there was an Italian place called “Zaza’s” with the best Naples-style pizza in Little Rock, we knew we had to go. When we were in Italy last year our favorite pizza was in Naples AND our favorite restaurant was called ZaZa’s (though it was in Florence)!! We felt like that was too much of a coincidence not to at least try it out!

zaza'sZaza‘s cracked us up because of all their Southern-United-States/Italian mixing. “Ciao y’all” was all over their restaurant. They did indeed have a brick oven for their pizza like in Naples and their crust was similar to what we ate there, but not quite the same. However, the pizza itself was still pretty good! It was greasier than anything we ate in Italy, but well, that could be the Southern United States twist thrown in there, ha! If you are in the Little Rock area I’d definitely recommend checking it out. The ambiance is cute and it’s definitely the closest thing to Neapolitan style pizza I’ve had since Naples!

rach and christopherNext up we headed to Pinnacle Mountain State Park! They have some easy (paved) trails that make for a pleasant walk. This is us at an overlook at the visitor’s center. Look how beautiful it is there!

sunshineLook! The sun is peaking through the trees at us! :)

rach marty katyWe stopped at a bench to get a shot of the girls together. Apparently I missed the pastel-patterned shirt memo. ;) {which is funny because I was looking through pictures from our get-together last year and apparently Christopher missed the blue shirt memo in this photo with his dad and brother, ha!}

lighting the grillSunday evening we grilled out at a park. Michael adds the lighter fluid, Christopher lights the fire, the boys inspect their work, and then all the food on the grill.

riverside walkAfter a delicious  meal we walked through the park and enjoyed the scenery. :)

Happy Tuesday, friends!
