Hiya! I’m Rach and I have a confession: I’m not really Italian. Mostly my heritage is from the British Isles. Was born in the USA, spent my teen years in Wuhan, China, came back to the USA for college where I met and married a very sweet American-born-Italian named Christopher. And now we live in Memphis, Tennessee! For the first 21 years of my life I might not have been Italian, but my last name says differently now… so, welcome to This Italian Family’s website!
Christopher
My very sweet husband as of 08.16.08 after proposing on 02.07.08 (dating since 09.29.04). He’s 27. Italian. Super laid back. Basketball fanatic. Home repair master. Loves four seasons and especially winter and snow. Works with numbers. Too smart for his own good. He is forever making me laugh. Definitely my best friend.
Rach
I’m 25. As Elf said, I just like smiling, smiling’s my favorite! Also on the list of favorites: I love to laugh, dance, daydream, soak up the sunshine, skip, snuggle, play, cook, photograph, organize, make memories, love fearlessly, be present in a radical way, and live each day full of joy.
I know all of that sounds like a bunch of fluff, but believe me, God has been so good to me and I have been blessed so overwhelmingly that I truly have no words for it. My only response is to overflow with joy. He is good. All the time.

But so much about the culture of close-knit families and laid back get togethers make me so happy.
Nice to meet you, Rach! What great energy you have. My last name now is Fitzpatrick, I don’t have a drop of Irish in me, but you gotta embrace it just the same right??? Love Italians, and the Irish, oh and the Germans, and Dutch, and Asians….etc.

Hey, Rach! I just came across your blog. I’m going to be studying in Italy for a semester (I leave in about 2 weeks) and I thought it’d be fun to check out your blog and see what you’ve all experienced, Italian-food-wise and culture-wise. I’ll be visiting often!
Ahh, hooray for a semester abroad! I hope Italy treats you SO well! My husband still has family in the Naples area so if you run in to any Italians that look like they could be his cousin, be sure to let me know.

Do I see that correctly…you have 3 kids!? You must be one busy lady!! I’m looking forward to browsing around your blog and seeing what’s in store!
Haha, definitely no kids of our own yet. Those are the kiddos I work with. I really need to re-do my welcome page to be less confusing.
Hi! Thanks for visiting my blog; it’s nice to “meet” you
I saw you got married in August ’08 … my anniversary is in Sept. ’08! And hubby and I don’t yet have kids of our own either, but we have the most adorable godson – 8 1/2 months old and already walking!
And I have to say, I love your confession about not being Italian. I totally understand! I only have a few drops of Irish blood, but my husband has a strong Irish heritage and undeniably Irish first *and* last name … so I call myself Irish too
Hooray! I’m glad that I’m not the only one who claims her husband’s ethnicity.
Sounds like we have a lot in common with the length of marriage and no kids of our own, but kids we love thing
I look forward to reading more of your blog!

By the way! When did you receive Jesus into your vida loca?! I did when I was 4! Who says you can’t believe and follow at a young age right?!
When I was 14. And you are definitely right.
So this is SUPER belated….but…I was going through my list of emails to go back to….and the one where you commented on my blog a while back was there! I had already stopped by to read some of your posts, but I didn’t “meet” you yet.
I’m loving y’all already!! My hubby and I started dating in Nov 03 and Married July 09….so we’ve been together roughly the same amount of time as y’all!

How fun that we have been with our spouses nearly the same amount of time! Glad we’re not the only ones who dated foooorever.
I just came across your blog and can’t wait to read more. I love Italian stuff, espicially Italian food!
Yay! I’m so glad you came by! We definitely have lots of great Italian recipes.
Please come back anytime!
Oh man Oreo reminds me so much of Peanut Butter, the first pittie we fostered and nursed back from distemper.
Thanks for visiting the “old blog” from 20 SB – this is the new one (I’m not saying the name of the old one to maintain its anonymity
)
Aww that’s so sweet! I so love to hear about people rescuing pits and teaching them that people can mean good things.
And thanks for passing on your new link! I’m going to check that out right now.
Hi Rach!
Very nice blog! I was born in Italy by the way!
Nice to meet you!
So glad you stopped by!
Come back any time!
So much happiness on here! Makes me happy as well immediately!
Yay! It makes me happy that the happiness is making you happy!
I love your “about” page! Can’t wait to read more about you
yay so glad to have found your blog!
Yay! I’m so glad you did too!
I found your blog comment surfing today! Nicely done.
Thanks! I’m glad you are enjoying it.
Thanks Rach! And there’s been times when I was a full-time salaried youth pastor that I wished I could just have the freedom to be a volunteer with the students. There’s good to both sides, but as long as you are pursuing your passion and following Jesus Christ with all of your heart, you are right on track. Drop me a line anytime and let me know how I can pray for you, your relationship and your ministry with your students!
I’ll be updating pretty frequently once I’m on the trail…wherever I get wi-fi, which is available but not everywhere (if you have seen the map of the PCT, you’ll see why…it’s way out in the middle of nowhere!)
You rock!
Dug
It really is nice to have the freedom to say no to things if I don’t want to do them. When I was being paid to do youth ministry it was a totally different story. I love every minute of it because I get to pick which minutes I invest.
I definitely look forward to reading more of your adventures!
love your blog RACH!!!! great pics!!! i can look at them forever! lol…so many to . and you blog is so engaging! nice stuff
Yay!! I’m so glad to hear this!! Please come back often!
Just found your blog from a comment on another’s. Isn’t the blog community great! Anyway, it struck me immediately because I am Italian (though all from my Mom so my last name doesn’t reflect it) and saw pictures of food which made my mouth water. Great site and I’ll check back often. Hope you’ll check out mine as well!
Yay! I’m so glad you came by! Way to have the Italian influence even if your name doesn’t reflect it. We’re kinda opposite in that way. You really ARE Italian even though your name doesn’t show it whereas I have the name, but not the bloodlines.
And now I made myself sound like a horse, haha! Anyway, so glad you came by!
Hi Rach! So nice to meet you! Thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving a couple comments! Truly makes my day!
. Love the Dog, Love that there isn’t a “lick” of Italian in ya. Also love to LAUGH, dance and sing! Lovely to meet you and happy to have found you! Have a very happy healthy day!
Jen
Haha! So glad you appreciate my lack of Italian-ness.
And it sounds like we have a lot in common, good stuff for sure!
goodness girl, you are your family are just beautiful! I love your heart and passion for life!
Thank you so much! You are so sweet!
Ahhhhh just found your blog! Love it! You are too darn awesome girl!
Coming from a big Italian family I can tell you that you don’t have to be born Italian to be Italian. It’s a way of life. So looking forward to keeping up with you!!
And thank you for not being afraid to share your love of the lord. You have a good thing going on here!!!
Awww, YAY! Your comment made me so happy! Thanks for recognizing my Italian-ness even if I’m only Italian by marriage.
So excited to check out your blog!
Thanks for commenting on my blog- I’m your newest follower!
You are so welcome! I really enjoy reading your blog.
You guys are so cute! Glad I found your blog.
Aww thanks! Going to check yours out right now!
I just had to come over and see who this Italian family is and what you are all about. You see, I am Italian–100 percent. And I’m not laid back–so how did your husband become so easy-going? I have three Italian men cousins who are like brothers to me, and I would never describe them as laid back. So funny.
I couldn’t possibly read all of your comments but my eye caught one about recipes. I will have to check those out. And if you’re ever interested in a traditional Italian Easter bread, I just posted the recipe our family has been using for more than 30 years http://openmyearslord.blogspot.com/2011/04/italian-easter-bread-tradition-that.html
We have two grown adopted sons still finishing up with college.
Hope you’ll stop by sometime and we can become acquainted.
Blessings,
Janis
You know, that’s really an excellent question. His parents and only brother are all very high stress people. I’m not sure how he got the laid back gene, but I’m thankful for it! I need someone to balance me out.
RTR!
RTR indeed!
I’m glad I found your blog! I am also not italian, but often pretend i am.
Haha! I love it! I just read your most recent post about pretending to be Italian and it made me laugh!
Hi Rach! It’s nice to meet you! Thanks for stopping by my blog.
I come from an Italian family & though my mom isn’t Italian, you’d guess she was!
Hiya! So glad you came by! I love that you’re from an Italian family – good stuff!
What a lovely set up and the dog looks cute too
Thanks!
Aweee your doggy looks adorable!!! I come from a big Italian family…both of my mom’s parents were born in Italy. My family definitely fits into the “crazy Italian family” category, and I wouldn’t have it any other way! Hope you’re enjoying the Italian way of life!
Glad to have stumbled upon your blog!
Thanks! We tend to think he is pretty cute.
I love that you come from a big Italian family! That’s fabulous, girl! Can’t wait to check out your blog!
Just found you through Twitter (you commented on another friend’s post). My name is Rachel and I too married an Italian. Crazy! I wish I had some Italian in me, but now, with tow kids and an Italian husband, I might as well be. Excited to follow you!
Oh how cool! I totally think that you get to be an honorary Italian once you have kiddos who are Italian.
I love your blog so far! It’s so warm and inviting! Your recipes look amazing as well. I’m def. going to be stopping by again!
-Rachel
Aww, thanks Rachel! You are so sweet!
Hi, you’re family is really cute!! I checked out your blog, it’s written great and wish you all the happiness in the world. Have a nice day:)
You are so sweet! Thanks for your kind words.
Thanks for stopping by my blog! I love your philosophy on life and being “radically present”, so uplifting. Ps. You and your husband make a GORGEOUS couple and your goggie is the cutest!
Thank you so much! I got the radically present idea from grad school and I have loved it ever since.
And thanks, girl! You are so sweet!
I love how you write and can definitely relate to a lot – be it the “radically present” frame of mind, the living overseas, or the italian husband!
I’m happy I stumbled across your blog, thanks for sharing your joy of life!
Oh wow! We do have a lot in common! Hopping over to check out your blog now!
This is great… you are great! I love that you married an Italian man (good girl) and love God and life and eating and cooking. Want to be friends? I’d like that. A lot.
Looking forward to what is to come from you!
xo,
Katie at http://www.ohshineon.com
You are so sweet! I’d LOVE to be friends! I’m coming to check out your blog right now!
Wow! I just stumbled across your blog, and couldn’t help but notice that we have a lot of similarities! Both Rachels, both married into Italian families just a few years ago (I am a “DeAngelis” now), both Christians, both have lived in China (my husband and I are currently spending a year in Zhejiang Province–that is what my blog is primarily about), and you live in Tennessee! Well….my husband and I actually have no affiliation with Tennessee, other than we’d really love to move there (not sure which city) when we return to the States next year. The similarities end there, because you seem to be an excellent cook, and I am NO GOOD in the kitchen. Maybe when we return to the States I will try some of your recipes and amaze and impress everyone!
I love your blog! I have subscribed!
We DO have a lot of similarities! How cool! I am excited to follow your blog and read about your adventures in China. I have missed living there for sure. I came back from Wuhan for college in 2004. My mom and my sisters and I are making traditional Chinese food for Christmas dinner. I am so excited! It has been so long since I’ve had authentic Chinese food.
But then I remember living there and I always missed Taco Bell and Dr Pepper since we didn’t have access to those, haha!
Ahhh… an Italian man. You’re one very lucky gal!
Don’t I know it.
Hi Rach,
I loved your blog. Right from you, your family to your recipes all are beautiful. Keep posting the photos… God bless you and your family!
Anshul.
Thank you so much for your kind words!!
Love your blog Rach! Wonering if you ever hit points of not being fully engaged in your faith, wanting to skip Church, etc. Although I don’t talk about it on my blog, my Catholic faith is a big part of me. Yet I seem to go through “phases” with it much like I do with running where there are times I just flat out don’t want to participate or go through the motions just to “do it”, yet deep down know I am not getting much out of it by not being truly present and focused. (If that all makes sense)….Anyways, if you do have times like that, how do you handle it and get back to a good place? (If you have posted about this before, feel free to just direct me to that post)!
Just sent you an email!
thanks for commenting on my blog! I’m looking forward to reading yours!
You’re so welcome! I really enjoyed reading about your field!
You two are absolutely adorable! My stepdad is Italian and I have a little brother named Christopher. You seem like you have a lot of fun!!! I can’t wait to read more!
Aww what fun! I’m particularly fond of the name Christopher.
Thanks for stopping by my blog, Rach! You two are adorable and I can’t wait to read more
You are so welcome! Excited to get to know you more.
Nice to meet you. Love your blog, looking forward to more from your Italian Family.
Glad you stopped by! I am headed over to check out your blog now.
stopped by suddenly…and so glad I did! Amazing blog! It was nice meeting this Italian Family. Let me read your posts now and know this family more
Glad you stopped by!
Loving these recipes! They all look so good. Look forward to trying some out.
Thanks! If you do, be sure to let me know! I love to hear how the recipes work out for other people!
