When people ask about the best steak or burger or BBQ in Memphis, I usually mention 2 or 3 favorites. But when it comes to the best Mexican food in Memphis, there is no question. Hands down it is Las Delicias.
I mentioned this last week when I blogged about going to eat there with Christina and Robby. And I was kind of amazed that I’ve never blogged about this place before. Up until Augustย I ate here every single week for two years with my teen girls. I have a lot of good memories from Wednesday nights at Las Delicias with my girls. ๐ Well, now my girls are all graduated and in college so these days I eat here for lunch dates with Christopher or a friend.
One thing you should know about Las Delicias… they have incredible chips. They are crispy and light without being greasy. And they are durable enough to handle queso, salsa, and guacamole without breaking (these are important things, you know. ๐ ).
The salsa is my favorite ever. Seriously. I don’t know what their secret is, but it’s magic.
And their guacamole… well, it’s just like a little taste of heaven here on Earth. No mushy stuff here thankyouverymuch. Big chunks of avocado and lots of goodnessย and BOOM. Deliciousness. I know you think I’m exaggerating, but I’m really not. It’s incredible.
With starters like those, the rest of the food could be sub par and I’d still say it was my favorite Mexican spot. But the rest of the food does not disappoint. My favorite thing to order is the chicken burrito (I usually get it without cheese which is why there’s no melted cheesy goodness in the photo above). It’s still SO good without the cheese and my tummy thanks me. ๐
Christopher rotates between the steak quesadilla which isย stuffed FULL and grilled perfectly (above) and the tacos. Their tacos come bursting with flavor and topped with fresh cilantro. So many flavors. So much goodness! Probably the most popular thing that my teen girls would always get would be the “cheesy chicken rice” which is literally a bed of rice topped with seasoned chicken and drenched in queso.
And if all of this weren’t enough… this place is cheap. My massive burrito that I get… it’s $4.50.ย I mean, really… that’s just ridiculous. In an awesome way.
Las Delicas has three locations in the city and I’ve been to two of themย frequently and the food is excellent at both locations. The Quince location is newer, a little more updated, and tends to have better service. But the Park location has lots of character and is more central in the city. If I had to choose a location I’d pick the Quince location simply because it’s bigger and there’s almost never a wait for a table. Not to mention that the Quince location hasย a great little patio space and live music on a lot of evenings. ๐
Do you have a favorite Mexican or Tex-Mex spot where you live?
I’ve never been to Memphis, but I’d love to go some day. When I’m away from San Diego I always miss Mexican food, so it’s good to know about the best local place to go!
If you are ever here, definitely let me know! I’d be happy to take you to Las Delicias! ๐
This place looks awesome! Now I’m craving Mexican food, haha. ๐
โI hear you! We love this place so much that we ate here last Saturday and then on Monday Christopher asked if it was too soon to go againโ for another lunch date. ๐ We ended up choosing sushi instead, but had we gone, it would be the first time we’d eaten Las Delicias twice in a couple of days! ๐
I LOVE a good Mexican joint!!! This is going to make me sound WEIRD, but it’s absolutely true…When I move to a new area (or visit one, for that matter) I’m looking for a few things in the way of FOOD: A good Mexican place, a good Chinese place, and a good hamburger place. The end. That’s alll I need!
I had all three of those where I used to live. Two out of three for when I lived just off of Cape Cod (I gave up on good Mexican, but found GREAT chowder). I have COUNTLESS options where I visit in SC. So far I’ve got two out of three in this new town (I’m still looking for a good Chinese place that’s not an hourish away).
That makes total sense! I’m sorry you haven’t found a good Chinese place yet! Crossing my fingers for you that you’ll find one soon!
I always (well, almost always) get the chicken quesadilla. I love this place, and it’s fun to read such a glowing review. ๐
Mmm… their chicken quesadilla is good too! So many good options. ๐ By the way, hi there! Thanks for stopping by the blog. ๐
My mouth is watering! ๐ That sounds so delicious!!!
Come visit me! I’ll take you! ๐
The guacamole is SO amazing. And the queso. And the chips. Haha SO glad you took us here, sweet friend! ๐
Yay! I’m so glad you liked it! ๐
It’s a shame that I didn’t get to check this out when I was in Memphis. I didn’t eat any Mexican food when I was in Memphis.
I always judge a Mexican place on it’s salsa, they have to get that right!
Aww, well there’s plenty of other good food in Memphis! ๐
And now I want Mexican food…for my second dinner. ๐ YUM!
Nothing wrong with that! ๐
Hands down the best guac ever!! In fact, I just ate there yesterday, lol! I pretty much have to have lunch there about once a week or I go through withdrawals. It’s serious. Their chicken quesadilla is fabulous and I love getting their chicken burrito minus the tortilla if I’m trying to low carb it after eating a whole basket of chips and guac, lol. I typically stick with their guac but yesterday I was starving so we got cheese dip too. It was extra yummy. More than just cheese, it had a little kick to it.
Yay! I love hearing other people who love this place as much as we do! It’s just SO good!
Oh. My. Gosh, can I just pay you to send me some?? Even if it’s just the salsa haha it looks SO GOOD!!! I love Mexican sooooo much and need this in my life. I’m googling it right now to see if there’s one in AZ haha. and ps I LOVE your cute new header!!! The cursive is gorgeous!
Girl, you need to come to Memphis and I’ll take you there!!
Also, as for the header… remember that one time (like yesterday, ha!) that I commented on your blog that I wanted to update my blog, but just didn’t have time for it right now because of all the photo editing I’m doing. Yeah, pretty much right after I said that, I thought to myself, “It’ll only take a few minutes to add a few tweaks……” An hour later I finally had something I liked. ๐ It’s still not perfect, but it’s good for now. And I really do like that font! It’s called Autumn Chant from Dafont if you decide you need it for anything. ๐
